這個中國同學特別愛犯的語法錯誤,其實特別簡單。千萬別再用錯了!!
聽栗子講 :)
Grammar Police
Stacey: Hey Jimmy, do you like chocolate?
Jimmy: Yes, I like.Stacey: Thats wrong.
Jimmy: What? How can you say my opinion is wrong?Stacey: You can say, "Yes, I like it" or "Yes I do".Jimmy: Shiitakemushrooms! Thank you, grammar police.
不知道Shiitakemushrooms是什麼意思?快點我複習一下吧!
This is an error I have noticed my students often make. I know it is probably because in Chinese when someone asks you a question like 「你喜歡巧克力嗎?」you answer with 「我喜歡」。
In English, for verbs that need an object, we say, "Yes, I do" or "Yes, I like it".
For verbs that dont need an object, like "swim", we can say, "Yes, I do" or "Yes, I swim".
In the question, "Do you like chocolate?", "do" becomes the main verb instead of "like".
"Yes, I like it" is acceptable, because "like" needs an object.
If you just say "I like", people will be waiting to hear what you like.
So, you can use "it" to take the place of the object "chocolate".
The same goes for other verbs:
A: Did you enjoy the movie? B: Yes, I did.
OrB: Yes, I enjoyed it. A: Do you have a football? B: Yes, I do.
OrB: Yes, I have one.("Yes, I have it" doesnt work here because "it" would refer to a specific football like "my football" or "the football".)
I have some questions below for you. I look forward to reading your answeres.
Goodbye E-Speller friends!
