To Be A Product Manager | Day 43

This journal helps me improve 1% every day…

Welcome to Day 43 of

To Be A Product Manager

I was stupid last night, left office early to see dentist but took the wrong bus… In the end I walked and rode mobike to the dentist, got there just before they were about to close. I still feel the pain on and off, especially while eating.

Today』s a good day. My proposal for website copywriting got accepted by my team and then I sent out a final version to everyone, which makes me very happy. Because of the toothache, I cannot focus on thinking about copywriting last night. But I keep these questions in my subconsciousness even in dream, this morning after I got in office, it only took me 30 minutes to write them down.

I』d love to share 2 things I learned:

1. Do It In Your Own Way

Last post, I talked about how my mentor started doing his research and brainstorming about copywriting. I definitely should learn from him as I said.

However, this morning I started with English version of our website copywriting instead of Chinese one, because I just feel like this is something I』m comfortable to start with. My reading habits and blogging are all based off many English platforms, writing down a English title first and then switching to Chinese one is something I』ve done for a lot of times.

I want to keep Apple style advertisement, but at the mean time, I also want to make tech specs straight forward and simple.

Then today they love my version and all say, 「this is very Apple.」

There』s no right and wrong, starting with the things that you feel most comfortable with. That』s the key.

2. Have A Consensus Before Taking Action

Yesterday as we were having discussion about our website, we didn』t say, 「okay, let』s think about the copywriting and get back together tomorrow」, instead, we put all the technological strengths on the table and divide them into different categories. Then we got 5 main strengths that we want to put on the website.

Only then did we decide to think individually and work on our own version. And the best thing is, even other versions are not using this time, they are still good wording and could be used in other scenarios.

Goals

  • Website copywriting
  • Specific data analysis

Challenges

I don』t think I have challenges today except for some digit calculations. Although I go to school in China, math is never my thing from the very beginning. ??

I did get 3 digit comparisons that we could use for backing up our copywriting, and we will discuss them later.

My name is Zake Zhang, a newbie VR product manager based in Shenzhen, China. I』m thinking what if I write daily product journal for 1,000 days?

Thanks for reading and let』s keep on hacking!

Warm Regards,

Zake

be so good they can』t ignore you.
