To Be A Product Manager | Day 38
This journal helps me improve 1% every day…
Welcome to Day 38 of
To Be A Product Manager
Because our American colleagues are leaving tomorrow back to the bay area, today is filled up with a lot of trivial and wrap-up things.
In the morning, I jumped into a server setup meeting since I』m guy helping them do the translation from the very beginning.
Then I started looking into our new website copywriting material. This is really painful for me, because I』ve been running my personal blog for a year and a half, these words are just terrible from my opinion. But since product team are responsible for the final product, I went through them word by word. I haven』t finished them yet, but hopefully I could get them done tomorrow.
I』ve updated the feature list and added some numbers to each feature, because it』s going to make their work a lot easier.
Then my rest of today are all spent on HTC Vive setup. And don』t get me wrong, I know exactly how to set it up, I could do it in 5 minutes on a Vive ready PC.
But here we are trying to install a video player and show our demo and technology in comparison with some main codec solutions like ERP and facebook pyramid.
Goals
- Server setup/translation
- New official website
- feature list updates
- HTC demo setup
Challenges
1. 7-day translator
I an not the tech guy, especially for the back end system and servers. So it is actually a challenge for me help them communicate with one and another. To make everybody on both sides on the same page, it really requires knowledge on some terms and basic tech understanding. I did a decent job, but I could do better for sure.
2. Patience
When setting up the Vive, there』re a bunch of errors and bugs pop up on the screen. The fastest way to solve all those problems, is to sit down and follow the instructions or suggestions on those platform to fix them.
Quote from our colleague Brain, who was a Playstation engineer:
This is why PS VR is going to win in the battle.
Once you plug Vive or Oculus on your PC, there』re many bugs going to show up, and you just cannot get rid of them. This might be a good question to think about.
Gotta go home, therere still some goals on todays list. See you tomorrow guys! ??
My name is Zake Zhang, a newbie VR product manager based in Shenzhen, China. I』m thinking what if I write daily product journal for 1,000 days?
Thanks for reading and let』s keep on hacking!
Warm Regards,
Zake
be so good they can』t ignore you.
