Pakistan is no exception. Instead of remaining the US satellite/attack dog in the region, Pakistan has recently adopted a policy of getting on the New Silk Road bandwagon. First, a 『deradicalization』 was done to curb radical islamist groups operating in the country, then various advances were done with the countries in the region - India not excluded. BRICS wouldn』t get Pakistan on board while the latter still being at a near state of war with one of their partners. Things didn』t get too rosy and hostilities remained in between these two nations, but its not like how it was before.

These overall produced good results. Thus, a latest stage in this cooperation frenzy is military cooperation - which synchronizes with the intent on battling radical islamist proxies which US used to wage war on region』s countries and also threaten satellites into submission.

Military cooperation tells that the region is intent on this New Silk Road thing, and they are taking all necessary steps to make sure it happens - including preparing against an 『asymmetric war』 which US may use as a means to hamper/prevent it from happening - it wouldn』t be easy laying tens of thousands of kilometers of high speed rail, building factories and operating them while radical islamist insurgencies were bombing here and there.
