To Be A Product Manager | Week 42
This journal helps me improve 1% every day…
Welcome to Week 42 of
To Be A Product Manager
For work, I』m still pretty occupied every day, spending too much time on execution but not enough on processing and being creative.
At a startup, most of times you get called or assigned tasks directly by founder or director, and they want the results in a short period of time, so it usually leaves you not enough time to figure out the why, you just dive right into it and want to get it done as soon as possible.
Thinking through it is the only way to boost your productivity.
For side project, my 30-day challenge for November is to finish my first short film, but my partner, the very actor, she went to Taiwan for a trip, and traveled to other city on this weekend, so hopefully we can get the shots next weekend, as we are both pretty busy during weekdays.
We have met for couple times, and I listened all the stories she want to tell. Then I drafted the script for the film, and I think it is our plot, a documentary short film.
What I accomplish
- live streaming features/planning
- live streaming demo/comparison
- algorithms on PUBG live streaming comparison
What I』m pondering
In the past 2 weeks, my passion and motivation for the current daily tasks are not falling into a pit. Most of the tasks require me not too much creativity, but only repetition and act4ual time. In some ways, I also lose some enthusiasm for VR and product management.
However, as we were having monthly review meeting this morning, our CPO mentioned that,
…the thinking process before every action you take, and the reviewing process after every task or project are essential for all of us…
When I take a step back, I realize I』m pretty lucky to have this nice environment and the opportunity to review ourselves and the things we』ve done.
If I』m feeling not creative or productive, it is most of time my own problems, and running away from it cannot solve them at all. So I think,
There』s always a way to find joy and fulfilment no matter what you do, and you just need to be creative enough to find it yourself.
My name is Zake Zhang, a VR product manager based in Shenzhen, China. I write weekly product journal and reflection.
Thanks for reading and let』s keep on hacking!
