To Be A Product Manager | Day 100
This journal helps me improve 1% every day…
Welcome to Day 100 of
To Be A Product Manager
Today is an ordinary day, but it』s also a big day for me. In the past 5 months, I keep the habit of writing a 2–3 minute journal every day when I』m about to go home. I consider this as a way to reflect myself and improve 1%. So far I haven』t skipped any days, sometimes when I was really busy, I went through this process until 2AM in the morning.
I know from the very beginning that writing probably has nothing to do with my product skills. Because it takes time to type your thoughts on the screen and share it with the world.
The more time you spend on blogging, the less time you will spend on your products.
For me, I decided to use my second language, English, which means sometimes it takes me 40–50 mins to put a welter of information in order, and post a 3-minute journal.
However, I won』t allow blogging to disturb my daily product development, because I usually write while others are struck in the traffic or playing games.
So, I will at least do another 100-day daily journal series.
Today we discussed about interaction design in VR. How do we put the button and content in 3D space? How do we help user understand every status, like browse, highlight, click and enter.
This is what I』m truly passionate about, because if you have read my previous post about what is true VR content, you will understand why.
Again, 360 degree videos are not true VR content, they are just filling the current gap and making time for technology to be fully developed and diffused around the world.
Goals
- VR UI & button design discussion
- Showstage lobby research
- Operations strategy discussion
What I』m pondering
In the afternoon, I read a lot online about live streaming industry. I want to understand the real needs of the majority, and why they are here. And it can be concluded into 4 big categories:
1. Uncertainty of content
2. Initiative
3. The cure of loneliness
4. Instant feedback
For example, Jack just moved to a new town and doesn』t have many friends here. He work full-time during the day, but everyday when he gets home from work, if he is not invited to a party, he will go watch some live streaming, just having someone talking about how they go through their day can make him very happy and satisfied.
And he may get rejected during the day by asking a pretty girl』s phone number, but here you could get the host private contact (most of time), if you send them a big gift, at least in China.
People are lazy, and always want to be in a comfort zone. If you buying some gifts online can make someone dance for me or sing for me, this is way much better than asking girl out randomly on street.
My name is Zake Zhang, a VR product manager based in Shenzhen, China. I』m thinking what if I write daily product journal for 1,000 days?
Thanks for reading and let』s keep on hacking!
Warm Regards,
Zake
be so good they can』t ignore you.
