To Be A Product Manager

Today is nothing special. Arrived at office early and then jumped into H5 discussion. After that I did some small changes to the website wireframe based on some feedback and suggestions I collected from other colleagues.

I also rewrote the copywriting on About and Join Us page, meanwhile I was also asked to think about how to improve our mission statement.

I learned about how to write a good mission statement during the time at Watson, but I didn』t find the presentation on my Google drive. So I also search online about how to write a good mission statement. I have 2 statements which I think I could share with others tomorrow morning.

Challenges

The challenges is probably still within our H5 video player discussion. As I said, this is literally my first product design under development. Although I tried to think as thorough as possible, but there』re problems.

Because of WeChat H5 rules, we are not be able to put share icon inside our H5 player, and the status bar is also controlled by WeChat, so your player may have problems switching from pages to pages.

We think about the pros and cons and then put the smooth workflow as the first priority in the H5 player, which means it might look a little bit ugly, but you won』t have major problems with it.

I want to mention 2 things, which is what I did before the discussion and after it:

1. Write or draw down the problems and your thoughts

This morning due to some engineering urgent discussion, our meeting was put off. So I have time drawing down the problems and my own thoughts, then they actually became the main whiteboard of our discussion, every one focused on the pictures and made the discussion a whole lot easier.

2. Document what you discussed and share it with others

After the discussion, thanks to my mentor』s suggestion, I didn』t just make sure the design is updated. I also wrote a document on our co working platform, Confluence, and keep every one updated with the change.

The good thing is our product director actually asked about our discussion about H5 player in the morning. And I can just reply with a link. Cooler than reply with a bunch of sentences right? ??
