To Be A Product Manager | Day 27

This journal helps me improve 1% every day…

Welcome to Day 27 of

To Be A Product Manager

As we are approaching the end of February, I』ve been a product manager for a first full month. I don』t think I get so much done in this month, it』s still like putting myself in the best state, by facing those every day tasks and things I challenge myself doing.

As I said in the very beginning of this article series,

A good product manager is also extremely good at managing life.

You cannot be an extraordinary entrepreneur without the skills of managing your own shit. I feel totally related to this lately. Because being an entrepreneur requires so many skills and mindsets that you have to be very good at managing a ton of shit.

And you might also lose all those good habits you』ve cultivated during the past few years. It』s hard to keep consistent with them, because you have a lot of high-priority things need to be done every day. How do you balance that?

I had a deep review of my past month in product management and myself, and made a simple list for me to follow whenever I need to make decisions:

1. Is it going to strengthen my product management / VR design skills?

2. Is it good for my health?

3. Is it good for building great relationship?

If they cannot meet these questions, I won』t do it. You should do it too, and every short term or long term sprint, it should be a different one.

Goals

  • Update Weibo/WeChat H5 page wireframes
  • Monday product meeting | 3 big tasks for this week
  • Testing live-stream apps

Challenges

I don』t feel like being challenged by today』s task, it』s just be patient and careful about the details on each page while drawing those wireframes and transitions.

However, I did realize there will be a big challenge for me next week. Some our American team colleagues are coming to Shenzhen office next week, and my task is to report bugs to a full stack engineer, who』s been in this industry for more than 25 years, and follow up until he fix all those bugs, or until he leave China. (He even could be my father regarding his age??)

While other people are pretty relaxed to leave this task for me, I feel challenged a little, but I love it. I start collecting bugs and feedbacks later this week, and let』s see how do I do next week.

My name is Zake Zhang, a rookie VR product manager based in Shenzhen, China. I』m thinking what if I write daily product journal for 1,000 days?

Thanks for reading! I really appreciate your time!

Warm Regards,

Zake

be so good they can』t ignore you.
