哪些辭彙是外企email常用的?

一、常用辭彙

1) highlight

這真是個妙詞,本意是高亮顯示,也就是給字體加點背景顏色,引申為強調以引起注意。

以下都叫highlight,前者是真正的highlight,後者雖然是畫圈,但是也是框起來引起人注意,也叫highlight. 下面區域就叫highlighted area.

所以,任何事情只要你想強調,以引起別人注意,都可以用highlight.就連足球比賽精彩回顧也叫highlight.

  • I have to highlight the issue that the deadline is close whereas up to date we havent come up with a solution

  • One of my concerns is that the factory is not highlighting the challenges in production.
  • Can you provide some pictures and videos highlighting the xxx area of the product?(就是要你特寫拍一下某個區域)
  • I would like you to put a report together highlighting what caused the issue and how you expect to correct the issue.

2) issue

郵件里很少說problem,一般都用issue代替,更加正式,表示值得注意的問題。

比如品質問題是quality issue.

例句參照上面。

3) bullet points

  • 現在左邊這個黑色的點就是bullet point,這是它的本意,中文叫做項目符號,引申為重點內容。
  • Lets discuss all the bullet points tomorrow.

4) callout

記住下面這這種有箭頭或者線條的標註文字叫做callout,不叫remark, comment, note.

把call out分開變成動詞,就是標註,學工科的都知道工程圖很多尺寸公差是需要標註的。

The tolerance/spec wasnt called out.

5) with regard to/ regarding

關於....的話題,不要用about

Ill have a business trip regarding the quality issue.

6) echo

本意是「回聲」,也就是唱KTV或者打電話經常出現的回聲,引申為「附和「,郵件經常用這個詞來表示「我只是重複一下某人觀點」,謙虛的說法

  • To echo Johns direction, our plan is xxxx(John的郵件在前面,如果在John的郵件上再回復就可以這樣說。

  • Just to confirm and echo John, please xxxx.

  • I can only echo Davids email. I also think xxx.

7) address

不要只知道是" 地址「的意思,郵件和日常工作中經常用這個詞表達」考慮、討論(以嘗試解決)「,意思介於think/talk about和solve之間,但是不完全一樣,不承諾一定能解決,委婉表示"需要引起注意並解決」,固定搭配address the issue/ problem/question/ concern

  • This issue needs to be addressed. (這個問題需要引起注意並解決)

  • The products address the needs of beginners. (這個產品考慮到了新用戶的需求)

  • A question we『ll need to address is whether we can afford XXXX

  • I addressed the quality issue in the meeting(我在會議中討論了質量問題)
  • All other questions/issues will be addressed by Kevin.(其他問題將由Kevin來討論)
  • Items to be addressed Wednesday(星期三要討論的事項)

8) bring up

表示把一個問題/話題提出來,這個是最常用的表達,隱含提出來供大家討論的意思,比mention的意思更豐富。

  • I also brought up a

    few concerns with John about XXXX.

  • One thing Id like to bring up is XXXX

  • We are looking to save some cost on XXX project and one of the ideas brought up by the team was to look at XXXX.

9 )involve

把某人(某事)包含到某事來,很難用某個中文單詞翻譯,意思就是把他牽扯進來(非貶義),比include的語氣要弱。

  • We would involve members from purchasing team as well.

  • When there is delivery issue, please involve the sales team.
  • I would like for the root causes and

    corrective actions to involve some engineering controls in the process instead

    of just increased inspections.

10) direction

字面意思是「方向」,引申義為「指示」,不一定是上級對下級,任何「做某件事的方法」都可以叫direction.

  • I will follow Davids direction.
  • Thanks for your direction.

11) concern

字面意思是「擔心」,和worry的意思差不多,還隱含「擔心而值得注意的事」,郵件中很少用worry這個詞,一般都用concern.

  • quality concern
  • delivery concern
  • cost concern

12) input

本意是「輸入」的意思,但是實際工作中,經常做「提供信息/建議」理解。

比如你給別人提供建議/信息,他會說Thanks for your input.

比如《紙牌屋》里,幕僚長對副總統說 We

value your input, Mr. Vice President.

比如你想問別人對這件事的看法,你可以說 Id like your input on it.

13) insight

翻譯成「洞見」,不接地氣,但也找不出更好的表達(或者是「高見」?)

工作中,經常用來拔高別人,可以看做是opinion和input的升級版.

比如 provide some insight for it,

Look forward to your insight.

Thats valuable insight.

14) dig into

"深入研究「、」深挖「的意思。

  • We need to dig into the root cause.

15) expedite

加快,郵件中多用這個詞代替accelerate和speed up.

  • expedite the order (加快訂單)
  • expedite the process (加快流程)
  • We appreciate whatever

    you are able to do in order to help expedite these samples.

16)due

很多人知道due to,但是不知道 due原來還有「預期」的意思,用來代替expect,due date是「預計日期」,而不是通常理解的"截止日期「,比如預產期也是due date.

  • The parts are due in Shanghai on Friday = The parts are expected to arrive in Shanghai on Friday.
  • Our annual report is due to be shared early next year.(財報明年年初公布)
  • The samples are due to ship(或者be shipped) on Monday.(樣品預計星期一寄出)

17)part

製造業用part代替product,沒有為什麼

The parts were made in January.

18) timing

時間安排,和time有相同和不同的地方,,很難翻譯,用來代替time。看字典里怎麼解釋的。

Timing is used to refer to the time at which something happens or is planned to happen, or to the length of time that something takes.

  • Because the manufacturing timing is too long, we would come up with a better idea(這裡和time是一樣的意思)

  • My July visit timing has not yet been decided(我七月份來訪的時間還沒確定)
  • Thats perfect timing.(真是個好時候)

19) check in

不要以為只是酒店入住登記的意思,在郵件里經即可表示」獲取信息「也可以表示「彙報「

老外有時候發郵件主題就是check in兩個字,郵件的內容就是問一個問題。

字典上的釋義

to talk with (someone) in order to report or find out new information <I have to go to a meeting now, but Ill check in with you later.

  • I wanted to check in to ensure xxx. 我發郵件過來只是想了解一下狀況,確保。。
  • David checked in with me on what we can do.

  • Ill check in with our team to confirm expected ship date and let you know. 我要去問一下我們團隊。

  • Ill check in with you tomorrow. 我明天再告訴你。

1) 問別人一個問題時,前面加個wondering表示想知道,比直接問一個問題更加委婉。

  • I was wondering what your thoughts are changing this design.
  • I am wondering if you are using the same material.

2) 請求別人做一件事,用If you could xxx, that would be great. 更加禮貌

3) 請別人幫忙做一件事時,在前面加(by) any chance,意思是如果有時間/有機會。

  • By any chance, could you help check the data? 有時間可不可以幫忙看看數據?

三、英語郵件如何顯得更加專業,給人留下好的印象。

  • 主題必須要「標題黨」,必須包含必要信息,讓人有打開的慾望。有些台灣人甚至在標題上加->Steven表示這封郵件是發給誰的。比如 XXXX Delay notice -> Steven
  • 一定不要用任何簡寫,比如c.u(see you)之類,除了pls(please),thx(thanks),當然能不用盡量不用。
  • 一定不要用gonna, wanna這種形式,惡俗至極,請變成原形 going to, want to
  • 回復別人郵件,要把過往郵件的內容recap一遍,防止別人忘記。
  • 多用bullet point, table 讓郵件更加清晰。
  • 多用callout,一目了然。
  • 有附件的話,把附件做一個summary貼在正文。
  • 附件的命名一定要規範,讓人知道裡面是什麼,也方便別人保存
  • 任何郵件,當天必須回、必須回
