SOME OF YOU MIGHT FIND THIS A HILARIOUS STORY, SOME OF YOU MIGHT FIND THIS DULL. PLEASE READ PATIENTLY:

So we are a bunch of Asian riders who dwell in Canberra, and we love to ride!

Weve got this group chat on the SNS app "WeChat"(Some of you might have heard of it, basically a Chinese-oriented LINE), and on Wednesday some fellow called for a run @6pm yesterday, which was a weird idea because we all know its rush hour in town and roos are everywhere at dusk. However, the guy insisted and most of the group members said yay to it. For the record, I barely knew the man, as I had been invited to this group chat for not long. My only impression of him was that he kept posting "professional" routes which are more than 600 or 700km into a group chat that were constituted of mainly L-platers and P-platers. Oh, and that "he was EXTREMELY EXPERIENCED with riding because his first Learner permit was issued 15 years ago". I found his poser behaviour kinda silly, and it was like he was trying to impress others with his "AUTHENTIC RIDER" IMAGE shit...

Anyway, we gathered at 6pm yesterday evening, and this guy went: "lets ride on the horse park drive!!!!" Most of the fellows were shocked by this silly idea of riding on the busiest road at rush hour, let alone the HPD was never meant to be a great riding route. Democracy then led us to go to the Tidbinbilla Circuit(See the route here: http://www.motowhere.com/maps/route/Tidbinbilla-Circuit), which is a great riding route. We had to admit it was a bit late for backroads riding, but it was better than riding on HPD, right?

So this group of 5 bikes departed from Gungahlin and firstly made a stop at the BWA M2C Site Office on Cotter Road, to see if everyone was happy about going ahead. Everyone were happy. Except the guy who initiated this run. Well, technically he did not say anything, but we thought he was just too "COOL" a guy to say anything in this scenario. And when the group departed again, he followed, so hes good, right?

After the stop at the M2C Office, the group kept riding till reaching Tharwa. As the first/second bike of the wolf pack, Me and a close friend of mine took most of the risk of the ride, say, hitting a roo or those shit.. Given the modest riding condition, none of us exceeded the speed limit, in fact, lets say we were all riding quite conservatively/well under the speed limit to make sure everybody was safe.

When we arrived in Tharwa, Voila, there were only three bikes, so two bikes were missing. Needless to say, one of them is our Mr "AUTHENTIC RIDER" who drew us into this in the first place. The three who arrived gave the two calls, and never went through, which meant the guys were still in the woods where there was no reception. We waited for another 10 mins. That was when my friend and I were kind enough to decide to go back and see if there was an accident.

Long story in short, we two risked our lives searching them for more than two hours along the route, and NOTHING. We had to go back to Wright and gave a call to the third rider who was still waiting at Tharwa for us to complete the search and get back to him. This third rider told us that the MISSING TWO had actually gone back half way through the route to make their way home. To be more precise, these two made a phone call to the third rider after they arrived home and had a cozy shower and finished their suppers. And more importantly, neither of both mentioned this in the group chat.

Me and my friend were outraged by this. But I still assumed the "AUTHENTIC RIDER" guy was just not thinking straight. So I texted in the group chat: "Thank God you guys are okay, we had to search for you along the route for two hours, please notify others earlier next time that you would like to withdraw from the ride, SMILE FACE emoji".

Guess what? Mr "AUTHENTIC RIDER" replied in another 20 mins, and he posted in the group chat: "I dont ride with reckless riders, you are putting others lives in danger, and what I have done was to make sure other people are safe. If you wanted to race, simply go to the track. "

My friend and I were like WTF??!!

For the record, the whole ride was NEVER meant to be a RACE, and nobody was STUPID enough to "race" next to several tens of roos which crossed the road randomly. The pace of the run was quite modest, almost never exceeded 80k. And you need to know that the route is signposted 100k! Every turn we took was in a slow and relaxed fashion. The riders were cautious as hell, and were looking out for each other along the run.

Oh, and for Christs sake, I ride a Harley Softail, so I really dont care being called a "STREET RACER", because apparently I am NOT!!!! I enjoy relaxed riding pace more than anyone else!

Moreover, the "AUTHENTIC RIDER" guy was always riding at the back of the pack, which means his chance of hitting a roo was minimal. But when he decided to take the other guy to do a U-turn and go back, especially after we have done more than a half of the route, was a much more STUPID DANGEROUS idea, because then they were taking the lead of their own trip, and going back meant they were actually to travel longer distance. And the fact that he NEVER intended to notify us of this, put our lives at risk of searching for them in the full dark night.

I never expected to run into an "INTERNET BIKE EXPERT", but here I am.

I am glad that no one truly got hurt in this. I really could not imagine if, god forbids it, someone had an accident, what kind of thrash talk and trollingthis guy would have thrown and pinned down on us.

So, if you are fortunate/unfortunate enough to run into a Chinese guy at his early 30s who ride a 2016 black Kawasaki Versys 650LAMS with incredibly new and shiny tyres(which is very unusual on these category of bikes), be careful of riding with him as a group! I think he works at Canberra Toyota Phillip as a sales representative, so it would not be him if someone you meet works else where.

DONT GET ME WRONG!

More than 99% of Chinese riders are very nice people who are enthusiastic about bikes just like anyone else. They love riding, especially with other motorcycle enthusiasts, and love helping other riders, just like anyone else. And yes, they ride all makes and models of bikes, Honda, Kawi, Duc, BMW, Harley, you name it, just like anyone else!

Thanks for listening.
