你的專業 VS 別人口中你的專業

你的專業，和別人口中的你的專業，似乎從來都不是一個東西；如果再轉述到其他人耳朵里，這個差距就更大了。

每次想想自己這磨死人的專業，再聽聽別人口中那接地氣的描述，內心OS都是「啊我受不了這委屈…」

最讓朋友們感同身受的應該是「英語專業」了吧，殊不知其實「英語專業」還分成好多細分專業：

• 英語語言文學 English Language and Literature
• 英語筆譯 English Translation
• 同聲傳譯 Simultaneous Interpretation
• 商務英語 Business English
• 英語教學 Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages

不過這些區別在親朋好友眼裡都是不重要的，概括起來只需要一個短語：學英語的。

更可怕的是，你在大家心裡的形象也都是：

(?~△~)?你學英語的啊？那你看美劇不用看字幕的吧？

(?~△~)?你聽英文歌都聽得懂的吧？

(?~△~)?這個怎麼翻譯啊？

(?~△~)?這上面寫的什麼？

(?~△~)?你不是專八嗎？

(?~△~)?哈嘍~ 在嗎？你幫我翻譯一段東西吧~ 一點點，而且不難。

統一回復：

這個事真的已經被整得沒脾氣了，現在再被別人說是學英語的，連自己都覺得自己就是個學英語的了。

不過說真的，英語方向的同學被誤認成「學英語的」，似乎差別也不算太大。但還有好多其他專業的同學，就沒這麼幸運了……

1 神經病學（pathergasiology）

你：

I study neurology, which means I study the diseases of the nervous system.

我是學神經病學的，也就是研究神經系統的疾病的。

別人：

He studies psychopaths.

他研究精神病人的。

2 地質學

你：

我的專業是地質學，我們研究的是地球的演化過程。

My major is geology. What we study is the evolutionary process of the Earth.

別人1：

他搞地理的。

He studies geography.

別人2：

他挖煤的。

He does mining.

別人3：

他研究石頭的，應該會鑒定珠寶。

He studies stones. I guess he can appraise jewelry.

3 地震學

你：

我的專業是地震學，我們研究的是震波的傳播，也研究地震對環境的影響。

My major is seismology. We study the propagation of elastic waves. And we study the environmental effects that earthquakes bring.

別人：

他預測地震的。

He predicts earthquakes.

4 植物學

你：

我研究的領域是植物學，我們研究的是植物的形態、分布以及進化。

My field is phytology. We study the forms, distribution and evolution of plants.

別人：

她種樹的。

She plants trees.

5 植物學的好夥伴：園藝學

你：

我學的是園藝學，這門科學研究的是如何種植花草蔬菜，同時也研究如何保護植物。

I study horticulture. This science studies the art of growing flowers, vegetables and fruits. We also study the conservation of plants.

別人：

她種菜種花的。

She grows vegetables and flowers.

6 醫學 （具體研究領域：艾滋病對細胞的感染）

你：

我研究的領域是艾滋病對細胞的感染。

I study how HIV virus infects cells.

別人：

你在醫院有沒有熟人？

You know anyone in the hospitals?

7 服裝設計與工程

你：

我們專業正式的名稱叫服裝設計與工程，我們除了研究怎麼設計服裝，也研究整個服裝市場，有時候還要學一學人體工學。

The formal name of our major is Fashion Design and Engineering. We dont only study how to design clothes, but also study the fashion market. Sometimes we even study human engineering.

別人1：

你做衣服的啊？好厲害啊！

You make clothes? Thats cool!

別人2：

你們買衣服有折扣嗎？

So, do you get discounts when buying clothes?

別人3：

你幫我設計一件衣服吧。

Can you design a garment for me?

8 人機交互

你：

我學的是人機交互，是現在計算機科學裡面很前沿的一個分支。

I study human-computer interaction. Its a frontier branch of computer science.

別人：

啊~ 搞 IT 的啊。

Ahh, so you do information technology.

企圖爭辯的你：

啊，對，不過也不準確。我們是專門研究電腦和使用者之間的交互界面的。

Ehh, yes, but not exactly. What we focus on is the interactive interface between computers and the users.

別人：

那你會修電腦嗎？

So can you repair computers?

9 食品科學

你：

我的專業是食品科學，我們研究的是和食品有關的生物學、物理學還有工程問題。

My major is food science. We study the biological, physical and engineering issues of foods.

別人：

好像是烤麵包的。

Baking breads, I suppose.

另一個別人：

他在哪家麵包房工作啊？有員工價嗎？

Which bakery brand does he work for? Does he gets any employee discount?

10 應用心理學

你：

我學的是應用心理學，我們研究的是用心理學的方法去解決一些實際問題，有時候也研究動物。

I study applied psychology. What we do is using psychological methods to solve practical problems. Sometimes we also study animals.

別人：

心理學？那你不是知道我在想什麼了？

Psychology? Then you know what Im thinking, right?
