You』ll think it harsh of me to say so, but no explanation I offer will satisfy you.

從信的內容上看，言簡意賅，而措辭婉轉——短短几行包含了以下幾層意思：

1.我老公派人成功竊聽我們的戀情不是你的錯（特瑞絲覺得是因為自己跟男偵探搭話和提議訂總統套房才導致了被竊聽）；所以卡羅爾說「There are no accidents, and he would』ve found us one way or another. 」；

2.主要意思是「我們之間要完了」，但行文卻沒有「結束」，且字裡行間透露著對離別的不舍和對未來的渴望；

2.語氣柔和中透出堅定：卡羅爾此時正面臨著人生中的最低谷——她將要忍痛和摯愛別離，獨自去與丈夫爭奪女兒的撫養權，但信中只是提到了「I have much to do」。這和之前特瑞絲髮現卡羅爾行李中藏槍，問卡羅爾「Do you feel safe with me」時卡羅爾的反應「You are full of surprises」是一致的：卡羅爾在這段戀情中更多地扮演了給予者的角色，她愛特瑞絲，把自己的不安和恐懼都深埋在心底，不希望特瑞絲為自己擔心。
