Logos (Greek: λ?γο? (In capitals: ΛΟΓΟΣ), from λ?γω lego "I say") means "a ground", "a plea", "an opinion", "an expectation", "word", "speech", "account", or "to reason」.

It became an important term in philosophy from Heraclitus (ca. 535–475 BC) who used the term for a principle of order and knowledge. 「Logos」 is also one of the three modes of persuasion by Aristotle, meaning argument from reason. According to Paul Rahe, 「it enables the human being to perform as no other animal can; it makes it possible for him to perceive and make clear to others through reasoned discourse the difference between what is advantageous and what is harmful, between what is just and what is unjust, and between what is good and what is evil.」 The term later appeared in religions, most notably the Gospel of John, the opening sentence of which went 「In the beginning was the Word (Logos), and the Word (Logos) was with God, and the Word (Logos) was God」. Psychologist Carl Jung contrasted 「logos」 with 「eros」, with the former referring to 「science」 or 「reason」, and the later 「mysticism」 or 「imagination」.

We employ this term to designate our organization in that (1) we are intrigued by the cause of finding the ultimate principle of life and the universe, (2) Aristotle』s logos is our aim, i.e. to reason, to use words to convey our ideas and to distinguish the just from the unjust, the good from the evil, (3) it resembles the 「Dao」 in Chinese (「a road」, 「word」, 「account」, 「to reason」, 「the way of nature」, 「the rule governing everything」) in many senses.

May we wield Logos properly and eventually grasp the Logos.
