值得推薦的英國近代史書籍有哪些？

感覺英國是個很了不起的國家，想要多了解一下。最好是一步步講述英國如何崛起的。英國美國作者的書優先，正好想讀原著。謝謝。

《牛津大英帝國史》（The Oxford History of the British Empire）。通常的歷史書是同一個作者的視角和觀點從頭到尾，非常有連貫性。但是這部書牛津基本請到了許多英國史權威專家（比如英國皇家海軍軍史專家N. A. M. Rodger），就英國17世紀開始的帝國史進行全方位的闡述。表面看相當於論文集，但卻是每個專家對於他所研究的內容進行的精鍊的綜述。覆蓋面足夠廣，內容也相當精彩，一共六卷，從英帝國的崛起到擴展、一直到衰落和分離崩析，每個階段的涉及到的方方面面裡面基本都有涉及。

Douglas這篇論文的主要脈絡是根據英國海軍史老專家 N A M Rodger 的著作寫出來，特別是1986年出版的 The Wooden World: An Anatomy of the Georgian Navy（The Wooden World (豆瓣)）。

N. A. M. Rodger的這本The Wooden World只有紙質版，但是網上可以買到以下兩本Rodger的電子版著作。《海洋護衛：英國海軍史第一卷，660-1649》（The Safeguard of the Sea: A Naval History of Britain, Vol 1: 660-1649, The Safeguard of the Sea (豆瓣)）與《海洋霸主：英國海軍史第二卷，1649-1815》（The Command of the Ocean: A Naval History of Britain 1649-1815, The Command of the Ocean (豆瓣)）

Douglas在文章中對於舉了海軍上將Byng的例子來說明英國海軍條例（Article of War，Articles of War）的嚴肅性。說1756年英國海軍上將Byng在對法海戰中，沒有按照英國的海軍條例戰鬥到底，而是返回了英國。結果雖然Byng是皇室寵臣，仍然在1757年被槍決。《賓的得勢與處決》（admiral byng his rise and execution_百度搜索）。

英國的崛起路上充滿荊棘。英國真正崛起的標誌之戰是18世紀至19世紀初的對法作戰。

Brendan Simms寫了一本18世紀英國的崛起史《三場勝利與一次失敗》（Three Victories and a Defeat (豆瓣)）。
