azew的詞源是啥？

在Tess of the D"urbervilles裡面發現了go azew。文章自己解釋是dry up的意思，也就是逐漸減產，即奶牛產奶量逐漸減少。那azew的詞源是啥呢？在網上搜了一遍，木有結果。最多說是方言用法，再無其他。

可以佐證的是一首叫 A Dream of the Isle of Wight 的詩，其中給出了另一種拼法

牛津英語詞典里也有收錄，並且拼法是 sew：

再努力搜一搜，可以發現 sew/assue 的這個用法跟法語里的 essuyer （擦乾；古 essuer）同源：

這裡其實已經註明了拉丁語的詞源 siccus，不過我們也可以用法語詞源字典查到更直觀的對應，也就是 essuyer 來自拉丁語的 exsuco（擠干、榨乾）。這裡 exsuco 可以拆成 ex + sucus，其中 "ex" 表示沒有或者去除，"sucus" 表示汁水。
