英語裡面把詞尾的 (e)s 拼成 (e)th 是什麼風格？

有時候放到http://translate.google.com、http://iciba.com、http://dict.youdao.com裡面都查不出來。

-th/-eth, 是「早期現代英語」(Early Modern English), 以及之前的英語/文裡面,

第三人單動詞的變化方式。

「早期現代英語」－各家斷代雖多少有不同, 但約當莎士比亞在世(十六世紀下半/十七世紀初),

前後兩三百年之間。您在莎士比亞劇本裡面, 就可以看到這樣子的變化方式。

然而, 在莎翁的劇本裡面, 也已經可以見到有 -s/-es的變化 -- 莎翁那時期剛好是英格蘭

東南dialect(方言), 亦即英格蘭的政經中心倫敦所在地方的方言, 於第三人單動詞

這方面的變化, 已經要從-th/-eth 來較普遍轉變到 -s/-es 的過渡時期。

而現代英語/文(Modern English)在這方面的變化方式, 則是您所熟悉的 -s/-es了。

若在後人文字當中, 見有寫出是-th/-eth變化, 那要不是引用前人的文字,

就是仿古風(尤其在詩詞當中較有機會見到)。

您題目裡面引用的文字, 是Thomas Hobbes的文字。
