翡翠石板到底是什麼？

看了《秘密》和《牧羊少年奇幻之旅》，其中都有提到神秘的翡翠石板。翡翠石板真的存在嗎？它的來歷是什麼？有那麼神奇嗎？它到底蘊藏著什麼？

這是在說《翠玉錄》（The Emerald Tablet of
Hermes Trismegistus）么？這是一小段文獻。據傳說，《翠玉錄》是亞歷山大大帝在希伯倫的赫爾墨斯（此赫爾墨斯非希臘神話中的赫爾墨斯，而是赫爾墨斯與埃及神透特的一個結合體，同時還可能受到當時新興的基督教的影響）之墓中找到的，一段雕刻在一塊翡翠之上的文字。牛頓晚年研究鍊金術的時候，也曾經閱讀過其拉丁文的版本，並將其作為其鍊金術的研究原則。

不過我並不覺得很神奇，因為看起來很像是希臘哲學晚期大綜合的一個產物，這其中有些當時神秘宗教和哲學的影子。

貼個英文版本，一般有點兒英語水平的人都應該看得懂：

True, without error, certain and most true: that which is above is as that which is below, and that which is below is as that which is above, to perform the miracles of the One Thing.

Thus thou hast the glory of the whole world; therefore let all obscurity flee before thee. This is the strong fortitude of all fortitude, overcoming every subtle and penetrating every solid thing. Thus the world was created. Hence are all wonderful adaptations, of which this is the manner.

Therefore am I called Hermes the Thrice Great（Hermes Trismegistus）, having the three parts of the philosophy of the whole world. That is finished which I have to say concerning the operation of the Sun.
