B: 那我還是不去了吧......

這裡的「還是」這種語氣怎麼用英語表現出來呢？只能用 I would rather not go 嗎？

看看 might as well 字典里的釋義，或者多看看正確的 might as well 的例句就能知道，might as well 所適合的語境不太一樣。

「那我還是……」的語氣有點複雜。這個語境里主要是為了表達轉折，所以我會在回答前面加一句 Oh, in that case... （那樣的話……）就表示你自己本意是想去的，但是礙於剛得知的信息（前男友）而改變主意了：

Oh, in that case, I don"t think I"ll go then.

上面那個例子太弱雞了，不喜歡，所以強改一下語境：

你自己不在意，而是前男友放不下，你嘴上說句場面話（「那我還是不去了吧，我怕他看到我不開心」），心裡想的卻是「其實我不在乎的啊，你趕緊再勸我一句我就借坡下驢了」，後面那句「還是不去了」就要打個折扣：

Oh, in that case, I don"t think it"d be a good idea if I went too.

甚至更弱化一下：

Oh, in that case, I"m not sure if I should go too.

這兩個說法都是給對方留下說服你的空間的！同理聽到別人這麼說也別以為人家真的就不想去了！

所以這個時候對方只要說一句

Oh don"t worry, I"m sure he won"t mind.

然後你一邊想著「我就是要他mind！就是要他看到本宮風華絕代的樣紙後悔心塞到吐血！」一邊假惺惺地說一句 You sure? 對方很識相地立刻接一句 Yeah of course 就大功告成了~~~
