Both of them are used widely.

Like: join our team, join In our team

Is the dissimilarity negligible?

Good question!

The dissimilarity is not negligible (the difference is important).

"Join in" means to participate in an activity.

  • "Join in the chorus (副歌)" (Starting singing at the chorus of the song).

"Join" means to link up with a group of people.

  • "Join the chorus (合唱團,chorus = choir)" (Enroll in the choir).

I hope this is helpful.

我會用join in.

join our team相當於join us, 人加入人,如川入海。

————————————

When you say "join our team" , you are sending the message "Join us, become one of us !" And "join in our team" means "Join in the team, become one of the team members . " This is the difference. (personal opinion)

join正確。join in彆扭。

join in等於take part in,後跟具體的活動,比如 join in the singing competition
