表達「我想要去做,準備去做」,可以用「would like」;但是表達對下屬或者同事的期待,好像用「would like s.b. can do something」有點奇怪啊。

This is a very good question!

Hope: a feeling of expectation and desire for something to happen.

  • I hope I get into Beijing University. (I don"t know yet but I want to get in there).

Want: to have a desire for something.

  • I want to get into Beijing University. (Could have less certainty than "hope")
  • I want to go to Beijing University. (This could mean I got into many universities but I will choose Beijing University. Or it could mean I hope I have the oppotunity to go to Beijing University).

Wish: a strong feeling or desire for something that is difficult to get.

  • I wish I could get into Beijing University (but I don"t think I can).
  • I wish I could have gone to Beijing University. (I didn"t have the opprtountity to go to Beijing Unviersity, and I am sad).

Expect: believe that something is likely to happen.

  • I expect I will get into Beijing University. (This one has the most certainty).

I hope my answer is helpful.

@GPCTEXT 的翻譯:

I hope he will come with my favourite chocolate.

I wish he could come with my favourite chocolate.

I want him to buy me some chocolate.

I expect him to buy me some chocolate.

I would like to drink some tea, if you don"t mind.

I hope I can get off work early today.

I wish I can marry Wang Si Cong.

I want you!

We can expect that the new movie is gonna come out on June.

I expect I can get the report by tonight.

Want &> Expect &> Hope = Wish &> = Would Like

個人習慣工作中以would/could為主, 比如:

I would say..

I would prefer..

Could you pls..

If you could..

I want that job. I hope I can get the job. I expect that job to pay really well. I wish I could get paid without doing any work.
