「I succeeded because I willed it.」,應該是willed還是would?這是訛傳還是特例?
網路上有一句流傳甚廣的名言(拿破崙·波拿巴)。
I succeeded because I willed it.I never hesitated.---Napoleon Bonaparte,French emperor.
這句話中willed應當是謂語動詞。而單詞will作動詞的過去式應當是單詞would。單詞willed應當是形容詞。然而,這句話實在是流傳太廣了,所以想確認一下,為何形容詞能做謂語動詞,或是這句話為訛傳。
- Napoleon was French so it would have been translated.
- "Will" is a verb. "I will the sun to shine." means "I really, really want the sun to shine, I"m trying to make it happen."
- "Willed" is the past tense of the verb "will" when "will" is not a modal verb.
- "Would" is the past tense of "will" in the following example, "He wanted out, but she would not leave." The present tense would be "He wants out, but she will not leave."
I hope this is helpful

God wills it.
will本身就有做動詞的用法,意思就是表意願,過去式就是willed。問問題前為什麼不查字典?
(old use) to intend or want sth to happen 想要(某事發生)
[動詞 + 名詞短語]
They thought they had been victorious in battle because God had willed it.
他們以為自己打了勝仗是上帝的旨意。
高票已經說得很清楚啦,will作實義動詞表示意志驅使某事發生的話,過去式應該是willed,即規則變化,過去式和過去分詞都一樣。另外在我理解中,willed可以作形容詞,這樣的用法也是由動詞的被動語態(過去分詞)活用而來,如果有這樣的形容詞差不多也說明動詞有這樣的過去分詞形式了。
