默多克如果成功併購時代華納會給默多克帶來什麼？

因為21世紀福克斯一旦和時代華納合併，默多克就成了美國最有影響力的媒體大亨。為什麼越大越好？想想竊聽門事件前作為寡頭的默多克對英國媒體的一手遮天。

21世紀福克斯是從新聞集團於2013年拆分出的兩家公司之一，接手了廣播電視和電影娛樂業務，目的是為了讓盈利不佳的出版業務不拖累影視娛樂業務。不過拆分後的情況有點微妙，第三財季凈利潤為10.5億美元，比去年同期的28.5億美元下滑63%。老默現在估計自己心裡也沒底，加上董事會的壓力，勢必要馬上扳回一局。

時代華納集團目前有三個主營業務：HBO、華納兄弟影業公司以及特納的電視網（TBS、TNT、CNN）。21世紀福克斯同樣在電影和電視方面同樣實力相當，擁有福克斯新聞網、FX、國家地理頻道。收購華納顯然能增加福克斯的體育節目版權、電影版權、電影市場份額等等。

默多克在去年推出了福克斯體育1台（Fox Sports One），在他看來體育賽事是一個金礦，因此不惜大下血本，甚至花費99億美元與NFL簽訂常年合同。華納與福克斯合併，等於順手整合了華納的棒球和籃球等賽事的版權資源，挑戰ESPN地位在此一搏。

另外這場收購也摻雜著點私人恩怨，默多克和CNN創始人的特納是多年來的冤家對頭，80年代的時候，特納還揚言要和默多克在拉斯維加斯來場拳擊賽（老默拒絕了，沒遇上鄧文迪怎敢貿然出手）。過去一些年裡，默多克一直試圖收購CNN，並表現出對HBO的興趣。
